Oh yeah, and NumberFields is paying stupid high credits. Don't just run a few tasks to see what it pays. CN is way more random than that. You need to get a batch of long and a batch short tasks to make the stupid kick in. Run it for a couple days, and you'll see. :D

@Dorsilfin that must have been very painful. I have 20,000 at WCG after two years of crunching and because I am now crunching mainly projects against Cancer but I am doing it for a very good cause. As I use to say, in the end we all win and that is so true in a special way about WCG. Thanks for all that crunching says the Duke from the heart.

I have not been on the forum lately, but I have been crunching. I have just passed 5.9 Meg [today] running DistrRTgen, and Mersenne for the past few weeks. I have been busy working on building 11 dictionary extensions for LibreOffice with English word list ranging from 98K to 638K words. That has kept my mind busy, but I have still been crunching steady.
I hope not to be off this forum too much longer, since I still have a few things to finish.
With my equipment, I cannot compete with the heavy crunchers here, but I have been crunching steadily since June/July 2009 when I first joined SETI.USA and the old forum with only 14K of crunching to my credit. With your support, I am coming nearer to my 6M mark. [been there now if PG would have kept crunch times/credits like it use to be]

I run a AMD Phenom 9650 Quad @2.30GHz max. 24/7 at 90% CPU usage. I sometimes do get into some heavy 100% CPU usage work that takes over a core or two for one to five hours a day, when running that software, but it pulses from 50% to 98% in a rhythm every 5 seconds or so.
I keep this Ubuntu 10.04LTS OS quad [my only desktop and cruncher] running 24/7 with a reboot every 10 days or so when I have an update cycle.
I know it would do better if I had a GPU, but my only one died after less than 100K of CUDA crunching, much less than that for the no-fan "220" I bought Feb 2010. Not it is no longer supported for crunching, if I still had it.
Now I do 3K to 14K as my BOINCstats daily listed credits. I was doing a little better when DistrRTgen was solo, but after a day+ with no WUs and did not catch it, I no longer do a solo project.

I reached my first Million mark in April 2010. Second in August 2010. Third in January 2011. Forth April 2011. Fifth August 2011. Then PG started their change in time and credits given. So it was two days ago that I got the Sixth Million mark for total work.
Since Feb 2010, I have been using a single quad for most of my crunching. I try to get a second system going, but it never works out in getting any more than 500 daily credits.
I would love to one day get a GPU, but I have other needs for my fixed income over getting a GPU for crunching.

The issues with the 500+/- daily systems is that I do not have the space to keep them set up. They are old and slow. I have one I salvaged the other day from the trash [someone let me know it was there]. It had a monster CRT monitor that was too big to be on any desk I know of that is less than 40 inches deep. The computer used Windows Me and its BIOS was so "bad" that it gave blue-screen error messages about it does not support some part of the OS that was required. Even the major computer company does not show the computer model any more in its support system. IT is now using the number as a laptop, instead of a desktop. I have Ubuntu 10.xx on it right now. It is a Celeron @ 633 MHz. I doubt if I would get 50 daily credits with it. These are the types of systems I am finding, when I find them.
So, I have one quad running 24/7 95% of the time. It would be nice to get a few more cores to do more work.

Your not the only one. My uncle's old Dell GX280 MB has a single PCIe v1.0 x8~x16 slot. I may have to surgically implant that board into 7-of-9. Problem is that MB is not standard ATX..... We will see.
F$ I've got a gx280 also. Let me know if you find a way to power it with anything but Dell's proprietary 210 watt psu...I have not been able to find anything that works. It will power a gt430 and short term a 4850.

I already know how. One needs to either buy a 20/24 pin PSU power plug adapter or rewire the plug on a standard ATX PSU to accommodate that MB. I have links buried in my bookmarks so I'll dig them out and post 'em.
Edit: Another alternative is to use the Dell PSU in tandem with a second PSU or auxiliary power unit. I had something similar in my old media server setup because of the crappy Tuniq PSU I had in it.
Update:
Note: ---> Dell produced 5 different versions of the GX280. The Small Form-Factor, Small Desktop, Desktop, Small Mini-Tower and Mini-Tower. Each one using a different PSU.
I did some checking. My Uncle's system was the small desktop version. According to the PSU section of Dell's online service manual (Link (http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx280/en/ug/pwrsply0.htm)), as compared to the industry standard ATX 20-Pin connector (Link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX#Power_supply)), his version uses standard ATX.
Check the links above to determine which one your system has and PM me if you want more help.

@ Krackedpress, Do you have a pci-e slot on that rig?
I ran on old/slow CUDA last year for 3 months before it died. The exact model number, well I forget. I have a x16 slot of the original 1.x version type. The rig was bought Feb 2010 and I bought the option of a 600+/-? watt PSU, instead of the 400 one as an upgrade, then I bought the GeForce fan-less card - whatever was the next step up from a 9800 - and the monitor from a different company.
I keep seeing new ATI cards that are not listed on the GPU Compatibility List shown on this forum, so I do not know how good they are for the price. I see some good prices, but the numbers are not listed in the 5000-6000 series range of numbers. I was looking at things like 4770 awhile back, but could not get the cash.
If someone has a spare CUTA or ATI that does not need any other power than what comes from the PCIe x16 slot, I can use it. I do not know if my PSU has the "special" adapters needed to plug into the cards.

I do my best supporting LibreOffice, helping with the emails, and finished building a spelling dictionary of over 600K words. I also read, watch TV, and volunteer [when I physically can] with a local group of adults with disabilities. I do what I can, when I can. That is what each of us should do. We do our best as we can, when we can do it, and then we do more the next time we can do more.
But, 24/7, my quad crunches as much as it can without overheating.

Does anyone know what the best projects for Crunching with a GeForce 9500. I will be getting it this week, and I want to make sure I have the best project[s] for it to crunch for the best daily credits it can make. I know it will not be the greatest GPU but it was donated for free by a member so I would be able to do GPU crunching. One day, I will get a better one, either a CUDA or ATI card, which ever one will give me the best credits from the card price I can afford.
I want to produce as much as I can with the limited system resources that my fixed income can afford. My current quad system does between 2K and 14K daily credits depending on the projects I am running. I use to run PG PPS-Sieve when the time and credits were worth the resources.
2,080,000+ credits for PPS-Sieve and 2,907,000+ credits total for PG since July 14th 2009. At least I got a badge for AP26 before it ended.
So, I will hopefully be crunching CUDA-GPU WUs before the end of the week. I need to know which projects would be work with the GeForce 9500 and be best for daily credits. Below is the list from the "http://www.setiusa.us/content.php?119-BOINC-GPU-Compatibility-List" page. I am running "DistrRTGen" with CPU as a default project. I know a few of the projects listed below are no longer handing out work, so I need to know which single precision project work I should go after. Maybe PPS-Sieve will be worth it again.

*2) OpenCL apps for Nvidia require Compute Capability 1.3 or higher. OpenCL apps for ATI require HD 4xxx series cards or higher for Single Precision and HD 5xxx series cards or higher for Double Precision.
*3) BOINC 6.13.10 (and newer) is required to detect openCL capability on the host.

Does anyone know what the best projects for Crunching with a GeForce 9500.
The mini-collatz should pay better than GPUGRID, but probably not as well as PG PPS or DiRT (when they start sending GPU work again.) But the WUs are relatively small. The 9500 is a rebranded 8xxx card although I don't recall the specific version, but if an 8400 GS will crunch Collatz, a 9500 will work as well. FYI, the 8400 GS with a whopping 16 stream processors takes about the same time as a decent CPU on Mini-Collatz and take several hours. The 9500 should do better although I don't know how much. I'd say try PG PPS first. It it works OK, it is probably higher credit.
