I read on there that Prime Grid did that because most crunchers prefer short runs. The sub projects with those credit bonuses have real long CPU runs. Some take days to complete. Some may take a week on older machines. I ran one of those Generalized fermat prime search tasks(GFR) on the GPU and it took 58 hours to complete on my very lowly video card(GT 630). The credit was 29,000 for just the one work unit and without any bonus. it was enough for the bronze badge(20K) Very kool.

That "17 or bust" sub project has a 50% credit bonus right now but it also says the average time to complete is 205 hours. Translated that might mean 350 hours on an older machine.
Either way, the credit will be nice on that one. Other sub projects have 10%, 20% and one has a 35% credit bonus.
